The Regional Municipality of York, Ontario adopts MapText's Cartographic Text Placement Solutions

Plainsboro, New Jersey - July 22, 2004

MapText, Inc., the leader in high-quality cartographic text placement software announced today that the Regional Municipality of York (Ontario, Canada) procured Label-EZ™, the company's flagship product for automated label placement.

York Region has joined the long list of organizations that have recognized the enormous productivity gain they can achieve by integrating the Label-EZ text placement software into their map production process. After thorough testing and return-on-investment analysis, they decided for Label-EZ to improve the quality of maps they produce and to significantly reduce the time spent on label placement, the most time-consuming and tedious part of map production.

York Region selected MapText's software primarily because it provides extremely high cartographic quality for various types of maps and is compatible with all major GIS systems. With MapText's technology, their GIS staff is now able to prepare the complex maps that previously took weeks to be labeled, in a matter of hours.

We expect that with the implementation of the new text placement system the Region's departments and clients will benefit from enhanced label placement and a significant reduction in the time spent for creating high quality maps”, Nancy Prout, Director of the Geomatics Branch of York Region commented.

MapText has built an impressive customer base in Ontario thanks to our strong value proposition, the uniqueness of our product, and the enormous productivity gain it can generate”, commented Dr. Herbert Freeman, the President of MapText, Inc. “Our solutions have previously been implemented with extremely positive results by the Region of Peel and by the Cities of Toronto, Ottawa, and Mississauga, as well as by Elections Ontario and Natural Resources of Canada”, Dr. Freeman added.
