Plainsboro,

The City of San Jose Public
Works Department (PWD) has chosen MapText, Inc.s technology in an effort
to improve the quality of maps that the City produces and to reduce the time
spent in achieving a high quality text placement. The City selected MapTexts
Label-EZ and Label-Edit software because of the
products ability to provide a high quality output of various map types
and its ability to work directly with Intergraphs GeoMedia supported
data connections.
With the new text placement production system, the City
of San Jose is experiencing improved quality text placement for the maps and
significant reduction in the time spent for generating standard and custom
maps for various City departments and other agencies. The labeling results
from Label-EZ are stored in an Oracle Spatial warehouse and can be
easily accessed by other City staff.
Prior to implementing MapTexts text placement solutions,
the City used the text placement technology within GIS systems for producing
maps. It used to average 16 to 24 working hours to produce the simple maps.
With MapTexts technology, City staff is now able to prepare the same
maps in a matter of minutes and can handle requests for much more complex
maps.
"Label-EZ is invaluable in our work because we
don't have to spend as much time manipulating text in an effort to prepare
high quality maps. The software yields the highest quality results using data
from multiple sources. This allows us to spend more time on application development
and data analysis, thereby helping us to make better decisions,
said Harsh Gautam, GIS Development Manager for the Public Works Department.
The City of San Jose also chose MapTexts training
services to acquire a quicker and more successful deployment. We
made more progress on the citys entire mapping system in one week using
MapTexts support team than we had believed possible, said
Kevin Briggs, GIS/Infrastructure Section Manager. MapText professionals
understood the mapping environment at the City and helped to seamlessly
integrate their products into our existing workflow. They also provided enormous
value and benefits to the City of San Joses GIS efforts. It was one
of the best decisions we made in the year 2002.
Label-EZ
is being used extensively for generating customized maps and will be used
to annotate various GIS layers for a map-book and also for on-line access.
