Plainsboro,
New Jersey - May 16, 2006
MapText, Inc. announced that South Carolina
Department of Transportation has successfully integrated its Label-EZ
and Label-Web text placement solutions for desktop and web mapping
applications.
The GIS and mapping group within South Carolina DOT is responsible for
developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive and integrated
Geographic Information System (GIS), and incorporating the department's Linear
Referencing System (LRS). The mapping group used to generate the maps using a
system based around MGE / Microstation. The department is currently in the
process of migrating all mapping activity to a GeoMedia-based solution and is
using Label-EZ in that workflow. Label-EZ has already been used
for generating functional class maps and other projects are in the pipeline.
The Integrated Transportation Management System (ITMS) web application had a
need for a solution that provided paper-map quality labeling in a dynamic web
environment. Label-Web offered the solution that SC-DOT was looking for. With
its seamless and quick integration into GeoMedia WebMap applications,
Label-Web demonstrated the aesthetic, high-quality label placement that is
critical for the success of the application. In addition to being integrated
into the ITMS application, the Label-Web solution is also used in the
Resurfacing Project web application which provides the public with the most
up-to-date information about the various projects being undertaken by the DOT.
Label-EZ is the market-leading automated text placement solution that
can be configured to place text on maps of any scale and style according to
the highest cartographic standards and user preferences, extremely quickly and
cost-effectively. Label-Web is a high-quality dynamic text placement engine
that labels web-based maps on the fly in a GeoMedia WebMap environment.
"At MapText we are proud to have SC-DOT join the various State DOTs who are
already using our text placement software and to assist them to generate their
maps cost-effectively with the highest cartographic quality. We are glad to
have contributed to the creation of high-quality web-mapping applications and
look forward to the use of the software across various other web applications
at the DOT," commented Rishi Mehra, MapText's Director of Sales and
Business Development.
