| Case Studies Illustrate how City of San
Jose Benefits from Using MapText’s Labeling Software |
|
Plainsboro,
New Jersey - July 20, 2006
MapText's MapText, Inc., in collaboration with
several departments of the City of San Jose (CA), prepared case studies
illustrating how the City benefits from an integrated suite of MapText's
automatic text placement products.
Participating city departments include:
• Public Works Department
• Public Safety Department
• Planning Department
The various mapping requirements of the departments demanded different text
placement solutions; all of which could be satisfied by one MapText product.
For example, the City's Public Works Department was using the built-in text
placement technology of their GIS systems for producing maps. It averaged 16
to 24 working hours to generate the simple maps that needed to be produced.
The quality was also not up to cartographic standards; therefore, maps needed
to be improved by time-consuming manual labor. The City was actively looking
for a solution that could automate the map labeling process and at the same
time ensure cartographic quality output within their GeoMedia environment.
MapText's multi-GIS flagship product, Label-EZ, satisfied all of their
requirements.
Label-EZ also proved invaluable for the City's Public Safety
applications. Emergency crews need to have the latest maps available and
Label-EZ's high performance guarantees quick map production for such
time-critical applications for the City's Computer Aided Dispatch System.
The Planning Department, a long-time user of MapInfo, required a high-quality
and cost effective labeling solution for their GIS, and they found one in
SmartLabel. Now they can create new street name labels derived from 40,000
street centerline segments within minutes. SmartLabel has yielded the
quickest and highest return on a GIS-related investment that they've ever
seen.
