Belgian mapmaker Aquaterra selected MapText's
Label-EZ automated label placement product for its mapping operations, the
companies announced today.
Aquaterra selected Label-EZ - a multi-GIS text placement software - to create
high-quality maps in a MapInfo environment. They plan to use Label-EZ for
creating fully finished geo-referenced map tiles at multiple scales for entire
territory of Belgium and subsequently for other European countries such as
Italy, France, and Germany among others. The end users of their maps are
public and private organizations and agencies.
As data is updated every six months, Aquaterra needs to update the map tiles
accordingly. Short processing time to generate these high-quality maps is
critical. It is anticipated that the use of Label-EZ would save Aquaterra
about 85 percent of their time currently spent on text placement for each
update cycle which amounts to almost four (4) months per update.
"Although our own text placement solutions did reduce production time to
some extent, the capabilities of the Label-EZ software proved to be a huge
benefit in placing more than 150,000 street names in record time for our
Belgian city maps. At the same time the complex problems of text placement for
bilingual cities like Brussels (Dutch and French street names) was a real
challenge we could only handle effectively with MapText's software," said
