Dr.
Herbert Freeman - Founder and President
Dr. Freeman has been active in the area of computer cartography
since the early 1960's. In 1979 he initiated a research project at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to solve the map text placement problem, a problem
that had been largely given up as unsolvable. That work, as well as subsequent
activities while on the faculty at Rutgers University, helped lay the foundation
for forming MapText. Dr. Freeman is a graduate of Union College,
Schenectady, NY and holds MS and Dr.Eng.Sc. degrees from Columbia University.
He is currently Professor Emeritus at Rutgers
University.
Michael Sleppin - Vice
President
Mr. Sleppin is a vice president of MapText and also
serves as a senior partner in a sales consulting and
training firm. Previously he was chief operating officer for a semi-conductor
equipment manufacturing firm. He holds an MBA in Management and Finance.
Rishi
Mehra - Manager of Software Development
Mr. Mehra is a co-founder of MapText and joined the Company
in 1998. He has managed all software development activities, including the
TPS software product delivered to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, and the Label-EZ
software, MapText's commercial cartographic text placement system. Mr. Mehra
received an MS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rutgers
University in 1998.
Dr.
John D. Bossler - Director and Technical Advisor
Dr. Bossler is a Director of MapText and also serves
as Technical Advisor since 1998. He was Director of the Coast and Geodetic
Survey, National Ocean Service, National Oceanic and Athmospheric Administration
(NOAA) under the Department of Commerce, where he held the rank of Rear Admiral
in the NOAA Commissioned Corps.
Dr.
Bathsheba Malsheen - Director
Dr. Malsheen is the Chairman, CEO, & President of
Chaoticom
(www.chaoticom.com), a leading provider of mobile music services. Prior to
that, Dr. Malsheen was President and CEO
of Voxware, a leading global provider of wireless voice-based enterprise
solutions for distribution and warehouse operations. Earlier, Dr. Malsheen was
with Centigram Communications Corporation where she served as General Manager
of a technology division, which became a leading provider of text-to-speech
applications. Dr. Malsheen holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Brown University
in Linguistics, and a B.A. from Hofstra University in Spanish and English. She
was also a Research Affiliate at MIT's Research Lab for Electronics.
Dr.
John Ahn - Member, Board of Advisors
Dr. Ahn is Principal Technical Staff Member, Global
Networking & Technology Planning at AT&T. He has been active in architecting
and implementing software systems for business case analysis of network modeling
and planning. During 1980-84 as part of his doctoral thesis research at RPI
he worked with Dr. Freeman on developing the first automated cartographic
text placement system.
