Plainsboro,
New Jersey - May 24, 2004
MapText, Inc., the leader in high-quality cartographic
text placement software today announced the availability of its Label-911 software
package specifically aimed at placing text and symbols on emergency / E911 maps.
The new software is an extended version of Label-EZ, MapText's market-leading text
placement product.
Emergency management services will find Label-911
invaluable for creating up-to-date E911 maps indicating:
- Exact fire hydrant locations and water
pressure (often color-coded).
- Street names, addresses, and block number
ranges.
- Malls, hotels, hospitals, university campuses,
airports, and other "common places" the emergency responders might visit
more frequently.
- Dispatch zones - each firehouse and police
station is assigned a first-response zone.
- Statistical map grids unique to the
dispatchers - e.g., the number of calls originating from "grid A" last year.
- Flood zones, and much more …
Emergency management and homeland security are areas
where accurate and up-to-date geographic information plays a critical role. As urban
areas grow and change, emergency management services face the challenge of constantly
needing to create new maps and update their existing maps. Since text placement is
the most expensive and time-consuming part of mapmaking, Label-911 can provide an
enormous benefit to those who face this challenge. It places the text for complex maps
in minutes instead of weeks - and does so fully automatically! And, with the highest
performance in the industry, Label-911 minimizes the need for manual post-editing.
Similar to MapText's high-end Label-EZ product developed to
label a wide variety of paper maps and charts, Label-911 is fully compatible with all
major GIS systems.
