Commercial mapmaker Karttakone of Helsinki,
Finland selected MapText’s Label-EZ automated label placement
product for its mapping operations, MapText, Inc. announced today.
Karttakone has integrated Label-EZ into
their map production process, where street maps are generated fully
automatically at two different scales and delivered in PDF format. The company’s
product suite will be expanded to include a road map series in the future.
Karttakone selected MapText’s software
primarily because it provides extremely high cartographic quality for
various types of maps. With MapText’s technology, Karttakone’s staff
is now able to prepare complex maps that previously took weeks to be
labeled, in a matter of minutes.
One of the fundamental selection
criteria for MapText’s software was the ability to integrate it into
our automated production line. As the label placement process can be
configured using text files, we were absolutely amazed how smoothly the
integration actually could be done. What really makes the difference is the
straightforward, logical definition of the text placement rules in the
software as well as the outstanding calculation performance,
said Mikko Sippo, the President of Karttakone.
MapText is proud to provide
high-quality text placement technology for the ambitious plans of Karttakone
and at the same time strengthen our presence in the European Cartographic
market, Dr. Herbert Freeman, President of MapText, Inc. commented.
